The GLOBAL 8000 AND THE G800 STAR IN OUR NEWS IN BRIEF
OUR first 8 is the Global 8000. In May, Bombardier revealed that the first production Global 8000 aircraft had completed its maiden flight taking off from the manufacturer’s Aircraft Assembly Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. Billed as the fastest civil aircraft since Concorde, the aircraft has a top speed of Mach 0.94, a range of 8,000nm (14,816kms) and a low cabin altitude of 2,900ft.
In July Bombardier revealed a $1.7bn firm order from an unnamed client for 50 Challenger and Global aircraft, combined with a “first-of-a-kind” service agreement. The first customer will also hold purchase options for 70 additional aircraft. If all options are exercised, the deal value would reach more than $4bn. Deliveries are set to begin in 2027.
Our second 8 is the Gulfstream Aerospace G800. The manufacturer made the first delivery to an unnamed client in August.Claiming the longest range of any business aircraft, the G800 can travel 8,200nm (15,186kms) at its long-range cruise speed of Mach 0.85 and 7,000nm (12,964kms) at Mach 0.90, according to the manufacturer. The Gulfstream G800 also features the industry’s lowest cabin altitude of 2,840ft (866m) when flying at 41,000ft (12,497m). The aircraft cabin can be configured by customers with up to four living areas or three living areas and a dedicated crew compartment.
