PEOPLE, PLANES AND PASSION.
WHEN WE LAUNCHED Corporate Jet Investor Quarterly five years ago, we promised you that the magazine would be dedicated to these three things. Craig Sincock has grown Avfuel by focusing on these too.
In 1985 Sincock bought Avfuel to combine his passion for aviation with business. Since then, it has grown from a fuel business servicing a few airports near its Michigan base to a truly global company. This growth was helped greatly by using business aircraft – often with Sincock as pilot.
But as the cover story shows, the success is all due to people. Sincock’s business plan was written by its customers, refined by his management team and delivered by Avfuel’s people.
Sincock may joke that you should buy your fuel from Avfuel because it is better. But the way he has made the company stand out and, in the early days, compete with oil majors is fascinating. Darren Broderick, CEO and founder, Asian Corporate Aviation Management or ACAM, is just as excited about the industry.
He has grown his company into the largest corporate jet manager in southeast Asia – and is now targeting Europe. He has done all of this without even having a website; relying on referrals and his company’s reputation.
Before launching ACAM, Broderick was an offshore helicopter pilot. One of his missions involved rescuing an injured worker from a rig during a typhoon. In this issue, we look at the other end of the helicopter market: VIP helicopters. Instead of going off-shore, Mike Stones spent an enjoyable morning flying over London to research the feature. We also look at a start-up trying to revolutionise the tiltwing.
Boeing announced its new BBJ Select concept at NBAA-BACE. With one simple contract with the manufacturer, it is the simplest way to get a new Boeing Business Jet. It is also the most economical. Boeing is not confirming prices. You get a lot of aircraft for what we estimate is $95m.
It seems crazy to think we are already into 2024. While the post-lockdown boom may be cooling, there are still many reasons to be optimistic and we look forward to seeing you soon.
