SURVIVING THE STORM

WE HOPE YOU enjoyed the last issue of Corporate Jet Investor featuring our five business aviation megatrends.

Unfortunately, due to a terrible printing/production error, our sixth megatrend – pandemics – was missed out. The good news is that we have made up for it with this issue.

The world is clearly going through an unprecedented crisis at the moment. While some companies have seen a summer bounce, others are still finding things hard and need inspiration. And this includes us. Our cover story looks at how different industry leaders managed their organisations through other down markets. Every downturn is different, but their rules still provide guidance, especially as winter is coming in the Northern Hemisphere.

As well as managing through a storm, we have also pushed the metaphor further with a fantastic feature looking at the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. When other aircraft are heading away from bad skies, they fly straight toward them.

We know you do not read CJIQ to hear about us. But we just wanted to say how delighted we are to win two awards at the prestigious Aerospace Media Awards – and be shortlisted in another four categories. We won the Digital category (kindly sponsored by Collins Aerospace) – beating large media companies including the BBC. Part of this was for our series of Town Halls. We also won the judge’s commendation for our CJIQ article looking at how drugs smugglers try to use business aviation. We only can do things like this because of the fantastic support so many people in the industry give us.

And let’s end with another prediction. Things may be tough now but in five years’ time we will look back at 2020 as the time when so many people discovered how brilliant business aviation is. We just need to survive the storm.

In the meantime, I hope that you, your family and colleagues stay safe and well.
