Eutelsat OneWeb is the product of the 2023 merger between leading European GEO satellite provider Eutelsat Communications and OneWeb, the global LEO satellite communications network.
The merger gives the company “the scale, financial strength and business proposition to capitalise on the significant opportunity”, according to Eva Berneke, CEO, Eutelsat Group.
“We can address a wider range of customer requirements and provide hybrid connectivity services where they are required worldwide, all with industry leading resilience,” she said in a statement.
For business aviation, the company is focused on the OneWeb constellation of more than 600 LEO satellites offering customers global, low-latency connectivity. An extension of a further 100 satellites will be built by Airbus Defence and Space for delivery in 2026. This will enable technology upgrades including 5G on-ground integration and compatibility with Europe’s planned IRIS2 multi-orbit constellation in 2030.
Eutelsat OneWeb also has strategic partnerships with a number of leading avionics suppliers to create business aviation-specific terminals and next-generation electronically steered antenna (ESA) which are lighter and with a lower profile than legacy units.
Its OneWeb LEO service will offer flexible data plans and scalability and can be tailored both to the requirements of a small business jet and a larger aircraft with more data-heavy requirements.
